It is quite easy to find ones way from one point to another, it can be done quite easily with a map without the aid of a compass, but a compass is of great assistance.
Never try to fly by sense of direction, it is impossible owing to drift, I tried it on my first ‘scheme’ with the result that instead of going to a point 14 miles N.W. I landed at a point 25 miles N.E. I tried to fly by sense of direction back to the school with the result that I had a forced landing about 50 miles away from the school.
